Day 23 Neustrelitz (tree bike in Thurow) - Gerswalde - Ort-Herrenstein (80 km)

The upstairs apartment where we slept last night, diagonally across from the stately police station in Neustrelitz, was a bit of a fix. Very “basic,” to sum it up nicely. We drive past the bakery before nine o’clock where we have a coffee and buy bread for the road. Then on to Thurow where the tree bike and trailer are parked against the yellow side wall of a residential building. Sanne cycles with me today, Daan and Richard do both cars. We resolve to take every opportunity today to hand out birthday trees, and we succeeded quite well even though the area is sparsely populated. At least we made twenty people very happy. We keep asking if we can take a picture so we can make a nice poster with lots of happy people with a birthday tree. We have some nice pictures again today. It was a long trip today, eighty kilometers, the longest so far. We start through the forest and after an hour the landscape becomes large-scale, a bit like Groningen but slightly rolling. Around the scattered small lakes are forests and there it is immediately very touristy, but of the quiet kind. Everywhere we see birds of prey hovering above the fields, the Black and Red Kite, and the Marsh Harrier we at least saw. Nice for the European “Voice of Nature,” I suggest the Red Kite for that. Today’s route is alternately very easy for the tree-bike, over the smooth asphalt, and also very difficult parts, paths of round stones and concrete slabs, unpaved roads and of course the low-hanging branches. I feel sorry for him, but it is for a good cause. We had another example of Coincidence-Harvesting today. In the hamlet of Rosenow we stop at a small exhibition by Sybille Eckhorn, there are a few people sitting in the garden, most of whom turn out to be from Berlin, and they react very enthusiastically when we tell them what we are doing. Of course we hand out some birthday trees here too. Sybille’s work is really beautiful, colorful and with room for imagination, not too filled in so to speak. We ask if we can add this contact to the Circle4Change-Family we are building, and of course we were allowed to do so. We cycle away and are asked to come in by the neighbor a little further down the road. We indicate that we have to move on but not before giving four little trees and taking some pictures, fun with three interested young people, totally awesome. Around the corner, Daan and Richard appear to have been waiting for an hour. What are you guys waiting for? Had we said that, we would have come too! Of course they were right. We should communicate better! From here to today’s destination, Gerswalde, we have to make a big detour to avoid too much stress for the boom-bike. That does mean much larger roads, but fortunately it is not crowded with cars. Around six o’clock we arrive at Bernd’s detached house, a few kilometers outside Gerswalde. It’s not quite finished he says, but fine for us. In fact, I do like that just not finished. It is very stylishly done. We would like to stay here for a few days, but we have to move on tomorrow. Sanne cooks a delicious pasta and then we update all our digital tasks on this Saturday evening. It was another beautiful day.
