Sunday, April 20, 2025 – Easter – Dorum – Neuhaus (63 km)

What a wonderful shower that was on^Easter Sunday. The atmosphere of such a sports hotel remains strange and indefinable, but otherwise fine. It drizzles a little as we ride away from Dorum towards the coast, and from there we cycle up along the coast to Cuxhaven, nicely off the wind but it remains chilly. It is heartwarming how on this^1st Easter day the many hikers react to the Boomfiets. Smiling, thumbs up, asking questions, and many enthusiastic responses to the birthday trees. The handing out is getting better and better and generates fun conversations. And people saying they want to share. How nice. We take pictures of the happy people who received a birthday tree. The landscape along the coast is pleasantly varied, you feel the Wadden Sea through the dike that you see regularly, the forests, meadows, ducks flying up from the ditches, the yellow rapeseed fields, often with large farms and relaxed messy villages make it a pleasant landscape to cycle through, even with 10 degrees. The area is quite touristy, with many “ferienhauser. We pause at the lock in Cuxhaven, eat a sandwich and continue cycling along the industrial port area. The dyke we cycle along next has another one of those bicycle locks which the tree bike can hardly pass, but it works. That saves another detour. We thought we would spend the night in Cuxhaven but it turns out to be in Neuhaus, which is at least 20 km further on. Also good. Just before Neuhaus we meet a group of young people who had a day of cycling and responded enthusiastically to our story. Very nice this kind of chance contact and in this the Boomfiets plays a central role, otherwise of course I would never have addressed them. A total of 63 km today, of which the last 10 with a bit of sunshine. What a difference. We arrive at Lindenstrasse 3 in Neuhaus, a detached house with a garden. Sanne’s soup is already simmering. Before dinner, Yka and her daughter Marije join us. A whole family like this: Sanne, Daan, Richard and I, Linda, Yka and Marije, and Vincent and Liesbeth. Very cozy together at the table. With delicious carrot nut cake from Yka. The ladies and Vincent now walked to the Neuhause Easter fire. The Easter ritual is quite alive here, besides the many Easter fires you see colored eggs in the trees, many Easter bunnies in all shapes, colors and sizes. Another beautiful day.
