We are awake early and around ten o’clock we are at the tree bike on the square next to the church in Bad Eisenkappel. After a cup of coffee, it turns out that the tree bike no longer works. While the last two days it went so well with our temporary solution, pressing the battery display button three times. On this second Whit Monday, I call Luuk from Cargo Cycling. He answers and doesn’t have a solution either. Then I call the man from Germany from Movaria, from the motor system, fortunately he also answers, and together we find out, with the help of Daan, that it must be the control system next to the generator. And that part has been on its way to us via DHL since Friday afternoon. But according to track & trace we don’t see any progress yet. It is super annoying that we are standing still and cannot cross the mountain to Slovenia today, at least not with the tree bike. Another tough exercise in moving along. We leave the tree bike behind and drive over the pass to Slovenia where we have booked an overnight location in Kranj for several nights. On the way we have lunch on the terrace just outside Bad Eisenkappel at Gasthaus Podobnik. We all feel it. This was not the plan. Especially since we are also quite tired, this chops us up extra. What are the scenarios? For starters, let’s bring forward the non-cycling days, Wednesday and Thursday, which will fall on Monday and Tuesday this week. Furthermore, we have to wait and see when the package arrives with the part we need to replace. If it arrives tomorrow we don’t have much time to waste and can arrive in Nova Gorica on Saturday, as planned. If it does not arrive until Wednesday we may have to postpone our arrival in Nova Gorica by a day. Tomorrow we will know more, we hope. Meanwhile, of course, we do enjoy the beautiful views as we cross the pass and drop between the mountain sides into Slovenia. You can feel that it is already warmer here than on the north side of the mountain. From our lodging in Kranj, which is slightly off the line, it’s another two hundred kilometers or so to Nova Gorica. We are almost there, but not quite there yet!
