La Croix-en-Brie

day 110 - 59 km

Sens - La Croix en Brie

As we ride from our lodging in Chuelles to Sens, we discuss the day’s planning. Sanne cycles with me and Richard drives the car. Daan rides with Richard first and later cycles with us. As we cycle out of Sens, the landscape is equal to what you expect of the Northern French countryside. Long rolling hills, distant views and slow winding roads with no trees. Autumn colors are really coming in now, the corn is already turning quite brown underneath. And so we cycle from rustic village to village. It is pretty quiet everywhere. In Courlon sur Yonne we meet the mayor for the Marie, Christina Rangdet. She tells us that the village has twelve hundred inhabitants and a large church from eleven hundred, which we briefly walk into, you feel the long time. She also tells us that it is an hour from Paris and therefore her village, located along the Yonne River, is in demand. What a coincidence again, most of the town halls are closed and she is the first one we meet as we drive by here. The same happens further on in Meigneux, where we meet the enthusiastic mayor, Veronique Samson, in the secretariat of the municipality. She even gives us an interview so that the village journalist can turn it into a story. Nice. Also in the village of Donnemarie, we put two little trees near the Marie, where the alarm goes off when an employee wants to enter the town hall. In the afternoon the weather is nice and above twenty degrees, this morning it was chilly with a wind from the north. A headwind, in other words. It is already three o’clock when we eat a sandwich in the grass along the road, ten kilometers before the end point, the town hall in La Croix en Brie. There, around five o’clock, we park the tree bike next to the church and town hall. All the little trees that were on the tree bike were handed out today. We drive back to our log cabin in the woods in Chuelles, do some shopping along the way and get there around seven. Sanne cooks a delicious risotto, Richard and Daan put the batteries on the chargers and I start this report. And so we have almost reached Paris, just to the southeast, only eighty kilometers to the heart of Paris. How quickly it goes.
