Termignon

day 90 - 37 km

Bar Cenisio before the French border - Termignon

We slept well in our wooden cabin. In the morning it is cloudy and a little later it rains. How will it be today? We would like to take nice drone shots today of reaching the highest point, the two thousand meters. Sanne and Liesbeth go shopping before breakfast for today. We have breakfast together and it’s around eleven o’clock when we drive off to where the tree bike is, just past the French border, an hour and a half away. We are getting the tree bike ready to leave when journalist Claudio Rovere from Avigliana speaks to us for more information about the project. He takes pictures and follows us for the first part of our climb today. We are going to try to cycle the tree bike all the way up. Richard is focused on making the drone images, and Sanne and Yka take images with the phone while cycling. After two kilometers, we pass the border with France. The eighth country on our Tour. The tree bike progresses slowly, nine kilometers per hour, there is a strong wind and it is sixteen degrees. It goes well and we climb quite a bit. When we have been on the road for quite a while, the tree bike needs a break, and as a result we are invited by Fabrizio and Marianna, through the only house here, to come and have coffee, how cozy. A small local drink even arrives on the table. Before we move on, we give them a little tree for the garden. The place turns out to date back to eighteen hundred, and was one of the shelters every two kilometers for when the weather got bad in the mountains. We happily get back on our bikes, what a nice meeting. We have to pedal hard and my wish comes true, we are going to make it, the tree bike is doing great and crawls from fourteen hundred to over two thousand meters in three hours. The highest point of our Tour. How happy we are that this has been accomplished. The scenery here is exceptionally beautiful above the tree line, the beautiful mountains, the playful and also threatening clouds, the blue reservoir, Lac du Mont Cenis. And then our tree bike just cycles through it. We notice that it is quite exceptional by all the positive reactions from everyone we meet. And that does us good. We shoot a lot of film and photos because we want to capture this moment, this highest point. We also make a beautiful team photo of this special event, we are crossing the Alps with a tree. Super right? We start the descent carefully, not too fast. It is getting quite chilly, an extra sweater and jacket on. And so we glide down into the valley. In total we cycle thirty-seven kilometers today to the place we were actually supposed to arrive last night, in Termignon. We park the tree bike and the trailer at a motorhome site and ride contentedly toward our wooden cabin. Vincent and Liesbeth stayed home today and cooked delicious meals. They also charged the E-bus with which Richard will take Yka to Alberville tomorrow, to travel back to the Netherlands by train. What a beautiful day it was again today. The 90th day already. It goes by super fast. And I must say that the combination of the daily tough challenges that call for creativity and moving along, combined with all the special encounters and warm reactions, and of course our great team, make this Tour an exceptionally beautiful and valuable experience that I want to miss for gold.
