Bresse-sur-Grosne

day 101 - 64 km

Montrevell-en-Bresse - Bresse sur Grosne

What a hot day, over forty degrees. That chops it up. So we get up at half past five and at six thirty we drive both cars to Montrevell-en-Bresse. A coffee and a sandwich on the way, a little tree at the municipality that is not yet open and at a good half past eight I am on the tree bike. For the first time without an accompanying bike or cyclists. Because there are three of us and we have to carry two cars, and the distances are too great to bring it forward. But the cars are following me closely today, which is convenient among other things for the batteries. It really is a very nice route today along small winding roads draped over the gently rolling landscape. Ok there are also hurdles to take, Like the low bridge where the tree has to be tipped over and the much too low railroad underpass where we have to repeat the “Venice truck”, i.e. lift the bike up at the front so that it is horizontal. And also the gravel path with the big boulders was particularly unpleasant for the tree. It’s part of the job but fun is different. But fair is fair the route is beautiful. In the morning it starts with nineteen degrees but soon it rises to twenty-five and then on to thirty, thirty-five and forty degrees. I have to say it is hot but it is actually still doable, especially downhill with a little more speed and a breeze, but uphill it is tougher, it is slower, you have to pedal more and there is less wind. So when we come to a fountain my head goes under the tap to cool off. In the town of Gorrevod we stop at the Mairie and bring a tree and leaflets. Mayor Henri Guillermin is not there and an employee gives us the address. A little later we cycle through Chardonnay, you know it from the wine, and Richard sees the Mairie. We stop and someone approaches who turns out to be the alderman, Alain Terrier. He immediately calls the mayor who is not here today, Paul Perre. Alain is happy with two little trees, a forest book and some leaflets. We take pictures and cycle on again. Another fifteen kilometers. Now it’s more climbing than descending again, and that’s tough in these temperatures. But we enjoy the scenery and we make it. Richard takes beautiful drone shots. We notice that there are more birds of prey the last few days and also the first signs of autumn are starting to appear, quite early right? The Poplar, Horse Chestnut and Sycamore trees are the first to start turning colors and losing some leaves. Is it a coincidence that they are all names with a P? We park the tree bike next to a tree near the church in Bress-sur-Grosne. That should be fine for one night. We drive both cars to Le Creusot, where we spend the night nearby, and which is our final destination for tomorrow. We do some shopping and drive to our Gite with driveway. It is six o’clock when we open a beer on the still warm terrace next to the house. What a day. The heat really requires more energy. But we are on schedule and we have three new contacts at municipalities today. We eat a little on time so we can’t go to bed too late, because tomorrow we want to get up early again. We are trying to get a little ahead of the heat. Whether that works we will see tomorrow. Today we succeeded for the most part.
