Radków

Day 37 - 60 km

Poniatow - Radkow

It worked, but don’t ask how. We are in Radkow with all the gear. This morning around ten we left with a little sunshine, Sanne cycling along, Daan driving the follow car with batteries. The first few kilometers are quite a challenge, climbing and descending on bumpy asphalt. Then a good stretch of nice asphalt with a tailwind. Great. Until after lunch it actually goes pretty well. We have lunch in Gluszyca in a kind of eatery with traditional Polish dishes. The waitress speaks good English and is enthusiastic, as is her father. We eat hot Polish soup, it has something sour, but tasty. When we get on our bikes around one o’clock, the wind has increased and the sky is overcast. It doesn’t take long before we are sheltering under a large kastagne, thinking, this shower will pass. But no, it actually continues to rain all afternoon, and after five weeks of cycling without rain, we are not really prepared for that. And so within a short time we get very wet and very cold. It’s five degrees, brrrr. That wasn’t the intention, was it? It’s the middle of May! We cycle on, what else can we do? Because the rain gear is in the bus and it is still in Poniatow. Especially the hands and feet are cold. Daan switches with Sanne and we cycle on. How do you explain that you set your mind to zero, set your gaze to infinity and cycle on. It gets drier but because we are so wet it feels uncomfortable. So by five we arrive at our destination in Radkow, a mobile home of sorts. We shower hot, eat yesterday’s risotto rice and get ready to pick up the E-bus and trailer from Poniatow. As I ride there with Daan, it becomes clear that sixty kilometers through this quite hilly landscape is really quite a task. The tree bike has done very well, and so have we. The inclines are already pretty tough. We are tired and fulfilled, and at the same time it also feels strange that it might continue to rain for the next two days, as someone told us along the way who we gave a tree bike to. We have to put up with it, move with it. It will probably get nice and warm again soon, too!
